Barang: A 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Sundarpur Munda Sahi under Chandaka police limits here Monday.
On being informed, Chandaka police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Mamata Hota before sending it for autopsy.
Police said they are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the death and are waiting for the post-mortem report before initiating any action. “A case (18/18) has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC,” Chandaka inspector in-charge (IIC) Sunil Kumar Behera told the media.
Sources said the incident came to the fore in the morning after desperate knocks at Mamata’s door by her family members went unanswered. “We broke open the door to find a lifeless Mamata hanging from the ceiling. I’m yet to realise that she is gone,” Mamata’s husband Dhusuru Hota rued, adding that they are still wondering why she took the extreme step.
According to family sources, Mamata had married Dhusuru around seven years ago.
