Tangi, Nov 22: Forest officials seized the carcasses of 27 migratory birds from three poachers during separate raids at Bhusandpur here in Khurda district, Saturday.
A motorcycle used by the poachers was also seized by the forest officials. The arrested persons were identified as Biswanath Sahu, Sadanand Sahu and Adhikari Pradhan. The carcasses were buried after post-mortem.
Acting on a tip-off, forest officials chased two bike-borne youths and recovered 22 dead migratory birds that were being transported in a sack. The snares used by the poachers to trap the birds were also seized.
In another raid, forest officials arrested Adhikari of Gopinathpur with five dead migratory birds, when he was on his way to Bhusandpur. Forest officials registered two cases in this regard and produced the accused in a court.
The winged guests arrive here from far-off South East Asia, Ladakh and the Himalayas to escape the harsh winter. They start their homeward journey with the onset of summer.
