Derabish: As many as 35 people fell sick in a case of food poisoning at Tripuraripur village under this block in Kendrapara district Tuesday.
Twenty of them were admitted to the Derabish community health centre while the rest were undergoing treatment at the Khadagpur primary health centre in neighbouring Jajpur district.
The matter came to light after family members of Anam Mallick (50) complained of diarrhoea. Later, other villagers started complaining of the same symptoms and were rushed to hospital.
Some of the affected persons were identified as: Anam Mallick and his kin Minati Mallick (40), Bhagyabati Mallick (13), Saraswati Mallick (18), Himanshu Mallick (12) and neighbours Pabitra Mallick (19), Deeptimayee Mallick (2) and Purusottam Mallick. Their condition has improved after medical treatment.
Meanwhile, it is said that the villagers fell sick because of the stale and adulterated food they consumed. The villagers, however, blamed the district health officials for the mass sickness. They claimed that the situation could have been avoided had the health officials intervened in time.
Nevertheless, a medical team led by Dr Sruti Nayak from Derabish CHC rushed to the village and treated the patients.
