3rd consecutive win for Gangpur


Bhubaneswar: Hockey Gangpur continued their high-scoring form hammering Hockey Uttar Pradesh 5-2 in a Pool C encounter of the VIIIth Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship at Haryana, Saturday.

The Gangpur eves were on the rampage from the start and scored four goals in the opening 20 minutes through Aten Toppo (third), Sunita Xaxa (13th), Manisha Oram (15th) and Sushmita Kerketta (17th). UP however, pulled one back in the 22nd minute through Sadhna. In the second session, Jyoti Chatri (58th) made it 5-1 for Gangpur while Binamatra (64th) got a consolation for UP minute.


Anaam, Ananya in final

Anaam Almas put up a stunning show as she thrashed Henamika Sahu 9-3 in the women’s singles semifinal to set up the summit clash with Ananya Yadav in the ongoing Gurukul Open tennis championship here, Saturday. Ananya defeated Ankita Panda 9-6 in the other semifinal. 

In the U-10 boys’ singles semifinals, Bhadresh Mohapatra trounced Krushna Behera 7-0 while Akshant Beuria hammered Naman Kayal 7-1. In the U-14 girls’ segment Riya Mardaraj and Neemah Kispotta sealed summit clash spots. Riya thrashed Priyanshi Panigrahi 7-2 while Neemah trounced Aahan 7-1.

In the U-10 girls’ singles semifinals, Sara Anwita got better of Aarna Rai 7-2 whereas Aahan overcame A Samal 7-3.
