Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: Nandankanan Zoological Park welcomed four African lions and four zebras from Israel who arrived late Sunday night via Mumbai.
The eight animals were brought under the second stage of animal exchange programme from Israel’s Tel Aviv zoo. An eight member team of NZP had gone to Mumbai September 4 to bring the eight animals after they reached Mumbai airport September 8 and 10.
NZP authorities have made all preparations to welcome the new inmates. The enclosures in which the animals will stay were cleaned up ahead of their arrival, said NZP officials. After their arrival they were shifted to their respective enclosures from the large containers in which they were brought. There was palpable excitement among NZP staff when the eight animals reached the premises.
The animals’ health was in good condition despite the long journey they had undertaken. “Special care was taken to ensure that all the eight animals remain in good health all through their journey from Mumbai. Veterinary doctors had accompanied them from Mumbai to NZP. The animals’ health conditions were monitored constantly,” said an NZP official.
