Kendrapara: Five persons including the driver of a car died while another one sustained injuries in a road accident on Paradip-Chandikhol National Highway under Derabis police station in Kendrapara district.
While the deceased were identified as Harekrushna Sahoo of Garapur village, Rajesh Jena of Gupti village near Rajnagar, Jivan Jyoti Satpathy of Paikarapur village, Debasish Sethi of Belatala village near Pattamundai and Deepak Dhal of Kailashi village, the injured person has been identified as Sangram Mallick of Similiapada village in Angul district.
According to reports, after attending the annual function of Royal Dance Academy, all of them went to Jajpur to watch an opera show at 2 am in the car.
While they were returning home, the accident took place near Alabanka at 3 am. Locals and fire service personnel rushed them to district hospital, where the doctors declared five of them dead while the injured was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
It is suspected that the car might have hit an unknown vehicle from behind as its front side has been fully mangled.
Debasish was a teacher at Royal Dance Academy while Rajesh was serving in the Indian Navy.
