Malkangiri: In a major goof-up, as many as 50 voters, who had come to cast their vote at booth No. 146 of the Malkangiri Assembly constituency in this district, had to return home without exercising their right after they were declared ‘dead’ in the voters’ list.
This created a huge resentment and anger among the voters who had come all the way from their village to cast their votes. They bought the matter to the notice of the presiding officer, block BDO and the IIC of the local police station. They demanded action against the errant officials for whom they had been mentioned as ‘dead’ in the list.
They irate voters wore a stunned look on their faces after being declared ‘dead’. Even though they argued vehemently with the officials present in the booth, they were prevented from casting their votes. The voters furnished their voter identity cards and their aadhaar card, but could not budge the official from changing his decision and allowing him to vote.
