On being informed, local police reached the site and seized the pick-up van. However, driver of the vehicle had already fled from the spot soon after the accident.

In the third incident, a couple was on their way to Soro in Balasore district in a car when they met with a mishap.

The ill-fated vehicle hit a sand-laden Hyva truck which was standing on NH-16 near Kalitra Temple Square in Barikpur of Bhadrak district.

The man driving the car sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and his wife succumbed at a hospital while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, local police have registered separate cases and launched probes which are underway. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem, a source informed.

It is pertinent to mention, six persons were killed and several others were injured in a bus accident near Bidu Chhak in Soro of Balasore district Saturday.

The five deceased persons were identified as Asish Pandia, Pramod Pandia, Siddhi Pandia, Trayambak Meher and Subham Pandia – all from Nimana village of Subarnapur.

According to an eyewitness, around 10 persons from Nimana village under Ullunda block of the district were on their way back home after attending a wedding reception ceremony at Kaudiamunda. The fatal road mishap occurred at around 1.30am.
