Bolangir: Sixty migrant labourers including 11 children were rescued from a brick kiln in Peddapalli district of Telangana, a report said Friday. The rescue operation was carried out by a social outfit.
After rescuing the trapped labourers, the outfit immediately sent them to their native places in Bolangir and Nuapada districts.
According to reports, the 60 labourers, (26 male, 23 female and 11 children) from Loisingha, Nuagaon and Gaindamali under Turekela block in Bolangir district and Komna and Sareibahal villages of Nuapada district, had gone to Peddapalli and were working at PBC Brick Kiln at Kalvacherla in the district since October last year.
However, the owner of the brick kiln did not pay their wages and allegedly tortured the labourers, when they asked for their payments.
The outfit came to know the matter and wrote a complaint to the local labour officer. Later, it moved the State Labour Commissioner as the local labour officer did not respond.
The social outfit with the help of the State Labour Commissioner rescued the labourers from the brick kiln Thursday.
The labourers were kept in an unhealthy condition and were tortured mentally and physically, said Civil Liberty Committee’s joint-secretary Madan Kumarswami.
