Bhubaneswar, May 26: At least 665 women have registered with Commissionerate Police’s women app ‘Mo Saathi’, twin city Police Commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma told Orissa POST.
Sharma said they have received more than 5,000 applications for registrations. “We have not registered names of all applicants as many of them are outside the ambit of the Commissionerate Police. Many men have also applied for registration though it is exclusively a women’s app,” he added.
The Commissioner also said recently a girl had used the app after some locals eve-teased her in the city. “The miscreants fled the spot after they saw the girl taking out her mobile. This shows how effective the app can be for women,” Sharma boasted.
The safety app, which was launched May 15, will allow women to send a message to the police control room and three of their relatives in case of an emergency.
The women will have to first download the app from the Google play store and after downloading it a new user has to register with the Commissionerate Police website by mentioning the name, mobile number and at least two relatives/friends.
