Bolangir: The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in the state. Doctors and healthcare workers have been working round the clock to save lives. The doctors and nurses in hospitals have been at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic.
However, nurses have proved to be the lifeline of India’s fight against Covid-19. A pregnant staff nurse at special newborn care unit (SNCU) in Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH) in Bolangir has set an example for others by dedicating herself to the services of Covid patients.
She is now seven months pregnant. The staff nurse identified as Pragati Putel, 24, is a native of Rengaljuri village under Khaprakhol block in Bolangir district. She is now pregnant for the second time after losing her first pregnancy last year while attending to Covid patients.
However, that hasn’t deterred her from discharging her duty. District Collector Chanchal Rana has appreciated the work of the staff nurse and has thanked her for her dedicated service towards the Covid patients.
Reports said, she stayed calm and collected despite losing her first pregnancy and has been providing healthcare services to Covid and other patients since then. She did not even hesitate to work for the Covid patients when the second wave of corornavirus struck the state.
She said attending to Covid patients battling with lives has given her an opportunity to do something for them. She believes her services to the patients will definitely have a positive impact on her unborn child as ‘service to mankind is service to god.’
Her husband Rajiv Putel has inspired her most and given her courage to attend to the Covid patients in the hospital. Her husband accompanies her daily from the village and drops her at the hospital and again takes her back home, 80 km from the district headquarters of Bolangir. Her in-laws and parents have also inspired her in her work.
