Bhubaneswar: Sahid Nagar police Friday arrested seven Utkal University students for indulging in a brawl inside the campus on the intervening night of December 31/January 1.
The police said they arrested Avinash Singh (21) of Jajpur, Prithviraj Dalabehera (22) of Nayagarh district, Jyotiranjan Sahoo (22) of Nayagarh, Soubhagya Sundar Parida (22) of Jajpur, Soumya Ranjan Mohanty of Dhenkanal for going to Gopabandhu Hostel and abusing and physically assaulting some hostellers who were celebrating the New Year. “Avinash and his friends physically assaulted Hardip Sahoo (22), Deepak Bhala and other students. A brawl then broke out between the two groups. A case and a counter case have been registered in this regard and seven students, including Hardip and Deepak, have been arrested,” the police added.
The arrested students were produced in a court Friday.
