Birajakhetra (Jajpur): The town police Friday busted an inter-district gang of robbers by arresting eight men in a raid here. The gangsters hailed from Nischintakoili and Nemal areas of Cuttack district.
Several cases of murder, dacoity, attempt-to-murder, extortion and loot were existing against the gang in many districts, Jajpur police said here Friday. The police seized a Bolero, seven mobile phones, voter ID cards and many sharp-edged weapons from the gangsters.
According to police, the eight were hatching a plan for a robbery at a field in Lakhabindha near the Biraja Temple. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by IIC Sudipt Sahu, SI Manas Ranjan Chakra, Subhshree Subhasmita Guru conducted a raid and made the arrests.
During interrogation, the men confessed to have engaged in several criminal activities in the past.
It emerged that the gang had committed over 200 thefts involving electric transformers, cable wires and mobile tower batteries from Jajpur road, Korei, Balichandrapur, Nischintakoili, Tangi, Kishorenagar and Mahanga areas. A probe was on, the SDPO said.
