Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: In less than 24 hours after the death of a patient due to swine flu Sunday, the public health department here has confirmed another swine flu positive in the state, taking the number of affected to five in the state.
The fifth person who has been tested positive for H1N1 virus here is a doctor by profession and is a resident of Damana in the Capital city. According to reports, the victim has a travel record to Mumbai recently where he was reportedly exposed to the virus.
Public health director Kailash Das informed Orissa POST that the victim is 58-year-old and a doctor by profession. “The patient’s health is under supervision at his own residence. The relatives of patient have already been administered Tamiflu tablets to stay prevented from the patient. His condition is stable right now,” said Das.
Meanwhile, Health officials in Khurda district were put on alert after the death of 42-year-old swine flu victim Aditya Narayan Jena in Cuttack, Sunday.
Das Monday held several review meetings with Khurda chief district medical officer and other district officials in order to take a slew of measures to contain the air-borne disease.
Earlier, two health teams headed by RK Das visited Mukundprasad and met the relatives of the deceased. The team also took stock of the cleanliness in the village and distributed Oselta tablets to the villagers.
Meanwhile, the panic-stricken hospital employees who were treating Aditya and his colleagues visited the district headquarters hospital seeking preventive medicines.
Additional district medical officer (ADMO) Makrand Beura counseled and advised them not to panic. “No preventive medicine is available for the disease. We have to be conscious about the disease and its symptoms. People should visit hospital immediately if they experience symptoms of the disease,” he said.
The public health director also advised the villagers to wash their hands properly before taking food and see a doctors if they see symptoms of swine flu.
