Bhubaneswar: The Orissa CID has sent the exhibits of the Kunduli rape case to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata, for re-examination.
As a dispute had surfaced questioning the findings of the report of the State Forensic Science Laboratory here, DGP RP Sharma had on January 27, directed the CID to get the exhibits re-examined by the CFSL for a second opinion to clear the air and put an end to speculation, the CID said in a statement.
The CID is investigating the alleged gang rape of a schoolgirl at Kunduli in Koraput and the DGP’s direction to it followed media reports that the scientific examination report on it was tampered with while filing the final report.
“The investigating officer of the CID Tuesday sent the available exhibits of the Kunduli rape case to CFSL, Kolkata, for detailed examination,” the SP, CID, said. Before sending the exhibits to the CFSL, the CID investigating officer had to take the court’s permission for a re-examination. The girl had committed suicide January 22 by hanging herself
allegedly at not getting justice. The NHRC, meanwhile, has
decided to depute a team of experts for investigation of Kunduli
‘gangrape’ case.
Judicial probe to cover suicide
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday ordered expansion of the terms of reference of the judicial inquiry into the Kunduli incident in which a 14-year-old Dalit girl committed suicide allegedly after being gang raped by four uniformed persons.
The CMO said that as per the directive of the CM, “The circumstances leading to the alleged suicide of the victim will be added to the existing terms of reference of the judicial probe into the alleged gang rape case.”
The government had ordered the judicial probe into the alleged gang rape after the police ruled out the victim’s rape complaint. The government issued a notification to this effect December 26 and set up a judicial commission headed by the Koraput district judge to probe the matter. The victim committed suicide January 22.
