No solution offered by state sports and youth affairs department
Bhubaneswar: Due to negligence and apathy on the part of the state sports and youth affairs department, 50 students of Sambalpur are facing uncertain futures as they have not been able to take admission to the Government Physical Education College (GPEC) at Kulundi, despite qualifying successfully for the 2017-19 session.
After running from pillar to post to find a solution to their plight, the students have been forced to adopt the ‘dharna route’. Monday, the aggrieved students held a peaceful demonstration in front of the state sports and youth affairs department here and told reporters here that it will continue till they get justice.
Last year 50 students of Sambalpur were selected for admission in GPEC, along with 100 students in GPEC, Bhubaneswar on the basis of their career marks, physical tests and excellence in sports. But the state government issued a stay order for Kulundi applicants on the basis of the complaints regarding irregularities in selection process. Since then Sambalpur students have been waiting for further orders from the state government, where as Bhubaneswar students have already completed their first semester.
“We have approached many government officials including sports secretary Vishal Dev and sports director Vineel Krishna. They have assured us that a quick decision will be taken regarding our future. However till date nothing has happened. We are facing an uncertain future and are under a lot of stress,” stated one of the applicants, Bastab Mohapatra.
“We are helpless now. So we decided to stage a peaceful protest for an indefinite period until our issue is solved. So far government officials are avoiding us and not holding any talks. Both the secretary and director are away on trips. We just hope that some solution will be come up quickly as it is a question of our future,” he added.
