Bhubaneswar: The city-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) launched Kanya Kiran campaign for the safety of women and girl children here Sunday.
Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti Minister Prafulla Samal flagged off the awareness drive at KIIT Convention Centre (Campus-6).
The awareness programme has been initiated in association with UN-Women. Addressing the gathering, Samal said, “Women and girls fall prey to sexual abuses committed by the persons known to them. Therefore, we should introspect ourselves to find out whether we are involving ourselves in such crimes and should not encourage anyone to do the crime.”
Commissioner of Police YB Khurania, on the other hand, encouraged the residents of the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to inform any sort of crime against women and girls to the local police. He said, “I assure you all that stringent action will be taken against those who are involved in any kind of violence against female fraternity in the jurisdiction of the Commissionerate Police.”
More than 27,000 students and staff of KISS and KIIT will sensitise the children, their parents and general public about the social evil during the week-long awareness drive which will cover every district of the state.
Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Bhubaneswar-North MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo, Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Sandhyabati Pradhan, social activist (Green Man of India) K Abdul Ghani, President of KIIT & KISS Saswati Bal, CEO of School of Film Studies, Fashion Technology (KIIT-DU) Prof Himansu Sekhar Khatua, Little Miss Galaxy 2018 title winner Mrigakshi R Kumar and others were present.
Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated a state-wide campaign Paree Pain Katha Tiye against child sexual abuse under which about 15 Paree Express vans have been inducted into the campaign across the state against child sexual abuse. Every van will cover two districts in 15 days and after the end of the campaign, all the vans will converge at Bhubaneswar for a valedictory function on June 12.
