Chandrasekharpur: An engineer has been accused of raping an 11-year-old maid in his house for the past three months, at Padmavati Vihar in the Capital. The girl managed escape by jumping the compound wall and approached the Chandrasekharpur police.
The engineer, identified as Pramod Kumar Singh, resided in the residential colony along with his family. His wife happened to meet the girl during a trip to Jaleswar in Balasore district. Promising her parents to educate the girl in a good school, the woman brought the girl to her house.
Instead, she engaged the girl as domestic help. Three days after the girl’s arrival, the engineer allegedly raped the girl while his wife had gone out for some work. Since then, he had allegedly been raping the girl every time his wife was out of home. He lured her by gifting her new clothes.
Sunday morning, while he had gone out for work and his wife was away in Puri, the girl escaped from the house and sought help from the slum dwellers in the area. They helped her get in touch with a PCR van. Police later handed her over to the childline officials.
The engineer was now on the run. The girl’s family has been informed, and necessary steps would be taken after their arrival, police said.
