Bijepur assembly segment: CM for timely completion of projects

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday reviewed ongoing developmental activities in Bijepur assembly constituency and asked the officials to complete them on time.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Naveen took stock of all developmental activities undertaken by various departments under the Bijepur assembly constituency, which is having three blocks – Gaislet, Bijepur and Barpali– here at the secretariat.
“Today the developmental activities of our Bijepur constituency were discussed,” Bijepur MLA Rita Sahu said.
Stating that the meeting stressed on roads, drinking water and irrigation projects, Sahu said, “Almost all the works have been started. The CM has reviewed them and ordered to finish the incomplete projects soon.”
During the by-election, Naveen, who represents Hinjili constituency in the Assembly, had announced that Bijepur was his second constituency and he would closely monitor the development programmes of the area.
Sources said that work on a railway over bridge (RoB) at Barpali, a canal service road and a road connecting Barpali-Bijepur were on in Barpali block at an estimated cost of Rs 9.38 crore.
Similarly, seven unplanned road projects worth Rs 3.52 crore have been completed while four other road projects worth Rs 5.66 crore were also completed. All these projects have been executed by the works department.
The rural development (RD) department has completed 29 road projects till date out of the 34 targeted projects.
The remaining five will be completed soon while many other projects undertaken by the department are still pending.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction at RD department for the steady progress in execution of the projects, the source stated.
While 36 unplanned buildings have been completed, steps have been taken to set up a model school in Bijepur at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. The government has also taken steps to build a bridge on Anga river with an investment of Rs 12. 86 crore, the source added.
Out of 264 villages, 182 have been electrified under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, while work for another 82 villages is underway.
As far as drinking water projects are concerned, 274 tube wells have already been repaired in the three blocks while work on 63 piped water supply projects are in progress. The CM’s review also revealed that out of the 20 lift irrigation projects undertaken between December 2017 and May 2018, 10 have been completed. With the completion of these projects, 440 hectares of land will be irrigated with investment of Rs 2.2 crore.
Similarly, the CM directed to immediately start work on the Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project that holds an irrigation capacity of 19, 200 hectares. The officials were also asked to keep in mind quality of the work and complete the discussed projects within the allotted time.
The Chief Minister said that he would again hold a review meeting after two months on Bijepur development projects.
