Daringbadi: Villagers of Simanbadi area here in Kandhamal district are spending sleepless nights for the last five days over a “fear of the unknown.”
Villagers say someone was throwing stones at houses and waking up people in the middle of sleep at their homes.
Hundreds of residents from Dadibadi, Ladamala, Simanbadi, Judabadi, Bazar Sahi and Shiva Mandir Sahi came out of their houses with lathis and crude weapons after word spread that some unidentified outsiders were having food near a bush. No one could however be traced.
The inhabitants of the area were already in panic over kidney and eye rackets suspectedly surfacing in the region and the recent rumours adding to the fear.
So much so, villagers are getting panicked at the very sight of a stranger in the area, and they have also stopped visits to the forests for firewood collection and the like. This has affected their income and livelihood.
Police is looking the other way. Daringbadi IIC Tushar Kanti Mohapatra said the police were yet to get any complaint. He would visit the area soon, he said.
