Jajpur: Children of Brundadeipur panchayat under Dharmasala block in this district are reportedly forced to study in a dangerous environment at an Anganwadi centre.
The Gobindpur Anganwadi centre does not have a building of its own. It runs provisionally from a room of Raghunathpur Urdu Primary School. It is shabby and has become a reptile den with anthills coming up in the classrooms, a report said Wednesday.
Reptiles slithering around have endangered the lives of the kids studying at the centre. The presence of reptiles and insects has sparked panic among the children and their guardians as well as a drop in the number of children attending the centre, the report said.
Locals attribute the sad state of affairs to the carelessness of the authorities who have never bothered to clear the anthills from the classrooms. While the children manage to study in the dry seasons like summer and winter, the situation becomes dangerous in the rainy season.
Snakes, poisonous insects, scorpions, centipedes and white ants come out of the anthill and move around during
rainfall.
The villagers have made several pleas to the authorities to keep the surroundings of the school and classrooms clean, but to no avail, it was learnt.
