Rajnagar: Rajnagar forest department officials Thursday seized two kg of boiled venison and arrested one poacher in Sarajendrapur under this tehsil in Kendrapara district.
Acting on a tip off, a team of forest officials raided the house of a poacher at Sarajendrapur. The team seized the cooked venison packed in a tiffin and arrested Deepak Pradhan.
However, three of his associates are still at large.
Sources said Deepak Pradhan, Dillip Pradhan, Badal Pradhan and Badal Bera Wednesday night laid a snare to catch wild animal in Bhitarkanika National Park.
When a deer was caught they killed the animal and sold 10 kg of venison while distributing the rest among themselves.
Before returning to their village, they threw away the hide and head of the animal in the jungle.
Deepak was produced in a court Thursday.
