Bargarh: Police Sunday rescued 14 bonded labourers from Bheunria village of Padmapur tehsil in Bargarh district. They were being trafficked, police said.
A police team intercepted a pick-up van to effect the rescue. The driver has been detained, while the vehicle seized. The labourers were being trafficked to Barpalli from Paikmal in the district for manual labour.
“The labourers seemed to have been lured with money to be pushed into bondage. We are trying to arrest those involved in the trafficking,” police said.
Locals say such cases of trafficking are on the increase of late, and that these people were being made to work in dismissal conditions without any basic amenities.
