Chandahandi: In a shocking incident, a woman was hit to death with a cricket bat by her tipsy husband in a village under this block in Nabrangpur district Tuesday evening. The accused is Paduram Bhoi (35), and the wife Anjana Nayak (30).
Police registered a case of murder and produced Bhoi in court. He was remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea, IIC Taranisen Nayak said.
The couple worked as peons at Jadav Majhi Girls’ High School. Bhoi used to drink heavily and often assaulted his wife over petty issues. There occurred a fight Tuesday evening. In a bad temper, Bhoi took hold of a bat used by his children at play and hit Anjana hard. Family members rushed her to the Chandahandi community health centre (CHC) where doctors declared her brought dead.
Based on a complaint from Anjana’s brother, the police registered a case and launched a probe. The body was sent for post-mortem. Later, it was handed over to the family for the last rites.
