Berhampur: Locals blocked a road Saturday morning after a woman was killed in a road accident near Buguda in Ganjam district.
Soon after the accident news spread, irate locals came out in large numbers and staged a demonstration, blocking the road which created a huge traffic jam. The agitators demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and better traffic control measures on the stretch.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators with assurances that their demand will be considered.
Sources said, the woman, identified as Labanya Acharya, was crossing the road when a speeding goods-laden truck ran over her, causing her death on the spot.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver who fled the spot after the mishap.
