Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, a woman identified was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her house at Kutunia Harijan Sahi under Rasol police limits in this district Tuesday.
She was identified as Rashmita Nayak (20), wife of Mahendra Nayak of the same village. While no exact reason was ascertained, preliminary investigation and circumstantial evidence proved it was a case of suicide. Rashmita had allegedly consumed poison and ended her life.
However, Rashmita’s family members alleged she was murdered over dowry demands by her husband and in-laws and lodged a complaint in this connection.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
According to sources, there was a heated argument between Rashmita and her husband Monday night over some issue.
Their altercation soon turned into an ugly fight. Annoyed Mahendra left the house and returned home Tuesday morning only to find the dead body of Rashmita.
Meanwhile, Rashmita’s husband has been absconding since the incident that further grew the suspicion on him.
Family members alleged that Rashmita was frequently tortured physically and mentally by her husband for dowry.
