Cuttack, Feb 16: Steps being taken to contain spread of jaundice and effective treatment of those affected were reviewed at the collectorate here, Monday.
Town development minister Pushpendra Singhdeo and health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak took stock of the situation in the silver city, where jaundice has created panic in the past few days with 117 people affected by the disease.
Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasis Samantaray, Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Biswal, Cuttack Mayor Anita Behera and collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra participated in the review meeting.
According to sources, stress was laid on complete sanitation of old and contaminated drinking water pipes in the city. Besides, it was decided to clean drains and pipes which were choked with waste materials, on a war-footing to contain the spread of the disease. It was also decided to divide the city into 20 zones which would be monitored by 200 squads under the supervision of the district administration. Besides, it was decided to set up 193 large Syntax tanks in areas where the disease has created havoc.
Cuttack municipal commissioner Gyana Ranjan Dash said two workers would be deployed in each ward to clean old and contaminated tanks in the affected areas. He urged Singhdeo to make arrangements for funds to do the needful.
