Bhubaneswar: The state police is planning to open three more cyber police stations and will also substantially increase the number of trained officers along with infrastructure to deal with cyber crime.
This was disclosed by Director General of Police, RP Sharma, while delivering the inaugural address at a two-day workshop organised by the crime branch department in order to enhance the capability of the police personnel to crack cyber crime cases that kicked off at police Bhawan in Jayadev Vihar here, Tuesday.
Sharma said the workshop will prove highly beneficial for the police personnel. He also asked for similar educative programmes on cyber training for the senior officers as well.
He informed that state police has planned to open three new cyber police stations at Jeypore, Balasore and Bhubaneswar adding to the ones at Cuttack, Berhampur and Sambalpur. He also hoped that the plan would soon get the approval of the government.
Sharma also said that police will substantially increase the number of trained officers along with infrastructure to deal with cyber crime. The workshop was attended by 70 police officers from the rank of superintendents of police to sub-inspectors.
Nationally renowned cyber intelligence expert and the founder director of Blaktronics Investigation lab, Ishaan Sihna, will train the participants at the workshop. Apart from educating the security personnel in the states and the Centre, he has also authored three books on investigations through cyber intelligence.
Sinha said that during the programme he would train the officers on how to use various tools invented by him to track cyber criminals with practical training. While speaking to media persons, Sihna urged the public not to reveal important details about their bank account to anyone over phone. He also advised the ATM holders to check the keyboard and ATM machines before withdrawing money as schemers might be installed there.
Addressing the gathering, Additional DG of CID Crime Branch Sk Upadhya said that a section cyber criminals hailed from across the state borders that makes investigation extremely difficult. Cyber crime that includes spreading of communally sensitive rumors, making pornographic materials viral on social media and internet, stealing money from the bank accounts and ATMs has seen exponential growth in the recent past. He also expressed hope that Sihna’s vast expertise in this field would improve the investigating skills of the police officers for the detection and prevention of cyber crimes.
The inaugural programme was also attended by IGP CID-crime branch Arun Bothra,Ghanshyam Upadhya IGP Intelligence and Himanshu Lal DIG STF, CID, CB.
