Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: The ACP in charge of Kharvel Nagar zone, Sk Sarifuddin, and the ASI of Kharvel Nagar police station, PK Sahu, were suspended Friday for dereliction of duty after the breach in the security of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday.
Some people had Thursday held up the Chief Minister’s convoy for about 10 minutes near Keshari Talkies while he was on his way to attend a students’ union function at Utkal University. They had thrown eggs at the cavalcade and waved black flags.
Orissa DGP Sanjeev Marik, twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma and other top officials held hectic parleys here Friday to find out the loopholes that led to the breach in security.
“There was a security lapse on the part of the commissionerate police,” the DGP said.
“We had received an intelligence input that some miscreants were planning to pelt eggs and show black flags at the CM’s convoy. Clearly, there was negligence on the part of some police officials,” Marik said.
“I have asked for a detailed report from the twin city police commissioner and director of intelligence on the security lapse. I have recommendation to the home department that disciplinary action be taken against the officers responsible,” Marik said.
Six persons have also been detained for blocking the cavalcade. However, the commissionerate police have refused to reveal their identities.
Those who attended the meeting included the ADG Intelligence, Sunil Roy, the IG operations, Soumendra Priyadarshi and ACP PS Ranpise.
