Bhubaneswar: Recent cases of thefts in areas under Chandrasekharpur and Infocity police limits, in which no suspect has been arrested yet, cast a shadow of doubt on the competence of the law enforcement authorities.
According to police sources, around seven cases of theft have been reported in the past four days, taking the total cases to 20 this month. The thefts occurred at Niladri Vihar, Shailashree Vihar and Pragati Enclave, under Chandrasekharpur police limits and at Prasanti Vihar under Infocity police limits.
In Prasanti Vihar, the victims, Pramod Kumar Das residing at LP-871, and Anant Kumar Panda at LP-882 and a youth from Bihar staying on the second floor of the same building, reported thefts Sunday. They were away when their houses were struck by thieves. Both the buildings, LP-871 and LP-882, are located opposite to each other. The burglars decamped with a gold chain and a ring, two laptops apart from Rs 15,000 in cash from Das’s house, whereas from Panda’s residence, the thieves made away with two laptops and as many mobile phones. The youth from Bihar was looted of his laptop and mobile phone.
In another instance, gold worth lakhs of rupees was stolen from a residence of LP-169 building which was reported July 14.
Likewise, around three such cases were reported from areas under Chandrasekharpur police station. Gold worth lakhs, a laptop and government records were reported to be stolen from a house at Kailash Vihar late Saturday night. Sunday, some dacoits lifted a motorcycle from a house (B/8) at Pragati Enclave under the same police limits.
Although the miscreants were captured on CCTV cameras in most of the cases, the police have failed in cracking the cases.
Chandrasekharpur inspector in-charge Dipak Mishra said, “We have registered cases in connection with the theft incidents and launched investigations. We have also intensified night patrolling in these areas.”
