Berhampur: A high school teacher was arrested Tuesday for allegedly molesting a girl in Ganjam district, a police officer said.
In a complaint, the Class VII girl student said Monday that the teacher molested her July 28 on the premises of her school, in Jagannath Prasad police station area of the district, the officer said.
The 12-year-old girl also claimed that the teacher, in his mid-40s, threatened her with ‘dire consequences’ if she disclosed the matter, Anirudh Muduli, inspector in-charge of Jagananth Prasad Police Station, told reporters.
“The minor girl’s mother told police that she learnt to know about the incident the following day (June 29) when her daughter narrated the ordeal to her and refused to go to school,” Muduli said.
The mother and the daughter approached the police Monday, he said.
Based on the girl’s complaint, the police arrested the teacher Tuesday under different sections of the IPC and Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, the IIC added.
