Nuagaon: A man Friday morning surrendered at the police station after killing his wife and setting her on fire Thursday in an attempt to pass off the murder as a fire mishap at Naitaila village of Udaipur panchayat under this block in Nayagarh district.
The accused has been identified as Nilamani Mohanty.
According to the report, Nilamani of Naitaila village fell in love with Tikina, a married woman with two children, of Raghunathpur village of Nayagarh district when he was engaged at a truck as a driver in Khurda.
While they had married four years ago, Nilamani kept Tikina at Naitaila village and was driving a truck outside.
Four days ago, he came to his house and the couple entered into an altercation over some reasons.
According Tikina’s daughter Kajal, Thursday their parents quarreled over some reasons. Then, his father had locked them in a room and killed their mother. He also warned them not to disclose about the incident before anyone.
On the other hand, Nilamani surrendered at Nuagaon police station at 5 AM. While he confessed before the police that he physically assaulted her for her extra marital affair with another one, he said Tikina had committed suicide by setting herself on fire after locking him in a room.
However, assistant sub inspector (ASI) Prasanna Kumar Mishra said they would go to the spot after the deceased’s family members reached the spot.
