This has happened despite the government making separate rules and special provisions for the studies and rehabilitation of the differently-abled persons. While the CT and BEd examinations are scheduled to start from Tuesday many of the differently-abled candidates found themselves in quandary with the education department fixing the examination centres of many of the candidates as far as 300 km away from their homes.

This has pushed them into distress as they ponder that as to how they will reach the examination centre which are several 100 kms away from their homes and appear the examinations.

The education department has issued notice for the CT and BEd entrance examinations through computers for which the candidates have downloaded their admit cards from the websites. Many of the candidates have their examination centres in their own district or near their place of residences while the examination centre of several others have been fixed at as far as Rourkela which is almost 300 km from their place of residence.

This has happened in the case differently-abled Debashis Pradhan at College Road here whose examination centre has been fixed at Rourkela. He is a physical handicapped candidate under special reservation category but his examination centre has been fixed at Senate Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd, STPI complex at Sector-V in Rourkela.

He is 65 per cent disabled and is unable to walk properly. However, the education department has fixed his examination centre about 300 km from his place of residence. He has expressed his resentment over the decision stating that he may not be able to appear the examination.
The case of Debashis is not a lone example as there are several others whose examination centres have been fixed far away from their residences.

Sources said over 3000 candidates had applied for the CT and BEd entrance examinations. The department had fixed the Adarsh Engineering College in Angul as the examination centre in the district where 95 candidates in four batches will appear the one and half hour examination.

On the other hand, the plus three second semester examinations for Arts, Science and Commerce will be held on August 6,7,9 and 10 when the differently-abled candidates will be appearing their entrance examinations. This has sparked resentment among the plus three students as they will be deprived from appearing the CT and BEd examination during their  plus three examinations.

When contacted, district education officer Sachidananda Behera expressed his inability on the issue as a particular agency has taken the charge of conducting the examination.

Pratap Chandra Das, director TERT said the examination centres have been fixed online and nothing can be done in this regard.
