Rourkela: Five school students fainted during a parade practice session for the upcoming Independence Day celebration Saturday morning at Ispat Stadium here.
Around 1,000 students of MGM School were practising for the August 15 celebrations at the stadium at Sector-6 of the steel city. The school kids had reached the field by 7:30 am and were waiting in the sun for the CISF unit to arrive.
The humidity and the heat caused five students, who were out in the open from 8 am to 12 pm, to collapse. To add to their woes, there were no arrangements for snacks and water for the kids. The five students were rescued and taken to the casualty ward of the Community Welfare Society (CWS).
However, one of them was later shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) after her condition worsened.
