The hospital authorities had to conduct checks again on the body to confirm it was lifeless before the commotion died down.

Manoj Jena of Brahmakundala village under the Airfield police station limits had died after being electrocuted earlier in the day.

According to reports, Manoj and his cousin Haraprasad Jena were engaged in electrical wiring work at a house in Retang area on the outskirts of the city when the latter came into contact with a live wire. Manoj tried to drag him away in a bid to save him, but both were electrocuted and collapsed.

Local residents rushed them to the Capital Hospital where the doctors declared them dead after check-up.

On receipt of news about the deaths, several people, including local leaders of Congress and BJD, congregated at the hospital to get a last look of the deceased and console the bereaved families. Everyone was crying, tightly hugging the deceased and as a result the bodies also kept shaking.

Sources said, while the bodies were being taken to the post-mortem room, some of the relatives who had just arrived at the place claimed to have noticed that the legs and hands of Manoj were shaking. One of them immediately shouted out that Manoj was alive and the furore broke out.

The officials of the Air field police station and the hospital outpost laboured hard to control the agitating people.
