Belpahar: Police Sunday arrested a youth from Chhattissgarh for making objectionable postings against Hindu deities on social networking website Facebook.
The accused was identified as Md. Alizan (28) of Khadiapada in this town. He was arrested from Sariapali in Chhattisgarh and was produced in a court here.
According to reports, Alizan wrote some objectionable comments against Lord Brahma and posted them on his Facebook page.
The posts sparked tension in the area. Later, a group of youths lodged a complaint in Belphar police station Friday. However, police sat on the complaint and did not take any action till Saturday afternoon.
The inaction by police sparked further tension with hundreds of people gheraoing the police station and staging a demonstration. Police then registered a case. Later, a special police left for Chhattissgarh and arrested the youth from Sariapali.
