Bhubaneswar: The second review meeting of the security arrangements for the Hockey World Cup took place at the state Secretariat here Tuesday. Top officials of various departments including sports secretary Vishal Dev, twin-city police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty and Hockey India officials attended the meet.
“The second security review meeting of Men’s Hockey World Cup was held today. Representatives of Hockey India were present at the meeting along with senior officials of the state government,” the commissioner said, adding, the mega event will be organised in a beautiful and hassle free manner.
Every team will have security and PSOs. The hotels where the teams will stay will have security arrangements.
Tight security will also be ensured during the movement of players. All these things will be part of our security protocol, Mohanty said, adding, in case we receive any inputs regarding protests against Pakistan’s team, we’ll definitely do the needful as per the security protocol. It all depends on the future situation. Police bandobust will be made for the Pakistani team, he stated.
About 70-80 platoons of police force will be deployed during the event. Sports secretary Vishal Dev said, as a build-up to the event, we’re going to launch our ‘Build-up Campaign’ from August 29. He said cities where the game is popular will be targeted during the campaign. The branding, publicity and build-up campaign will be done around 17 cities in the country. A number of activities have been planned. Some internationally-renowned celebrities will be roped in for the campaigns. The celebrities will also participate in opening and closing ceremonies. “The idea is to showcase to the whole world Odisha’s new look — a developed, very progressive and proactive Odisha,” he added.
“There will be two camps for the India Hockey team from September 16 to October 14 at Bhubaneswar. The second phase will be from November 1 to 17. It will be hosted by the state government and all expenses will be borne by it,” Dev said.
Four large LED screens will be installed in Bhubaneswar for the spectators who are unable to go to the Kalinga Stadium. The LED screens will be installed at Baramunda, Janata Maidan, IDCO Exhibition Ground and Adivasi Padia.
