Bhubaneswar: With general elections some months away, the state government has decided to distribute two LED bulbs each to the families covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and state food security scheme for free.
Chief Secretary AP Padhi Tuesday directed all district Collectors, district level Energy department officials and engineers though video conferencing to finalise all preparatory processes for implementation of the scheme by September-end.
The bulbs will be distributed under the new scheme ‘Ama Ghare LED light’ announced by the state while presenting annual budget 2018-19. The state government had made a budgetary provision of `125 crore for the new scheme.
The government aims to implement the scheme from October next. Under the scheme every family of the National Food Security Act beneficiary would be given two LED bulbs free of cost. Each bulb will have a warranty period of three years.
The scheme would be implemented by the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) and the bulbs would be distributed to the beneficiaries through the Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.

In another directive, the Chief Secretary asked the Collectors and food supply officers to immediately update the number of food security scheme beneficiaries in the website.
Padhi asked the officers to issue ration cards to beneficiaries whose records were received until September 2, by October 2. He also directed them to receive applications till September 10.
