Telkoi: Heavy rains and thunder storms lashed Kanjipani area in Telkoi block of Keonjhar district Saturday.
Rainwater from upland hilly areas flowed into Jarada creek, leaving a hume-pipe bridge at Pitanali under water. This disrupted communication.
Students and teachers of Adarsh School got stuck there and could not come home.
Principal Smaranika Sadangi sought the help of fire brigade who rescued the children and the staff with the help of ropes.
Local people and the principal have demanded a bridge at the place to ward off such untoward situation in the monsoon.
They also pointed out that tower transmission lines have been drawn near the school, posing threat to the children. The locals and the school authorities demanded quick step to remove the tower lines.
