Keonjhar: Ramesh Chandra Sethi, a resident of Keonjhar, is a retired teacher. But he has not given up teaching even after retirement and does it free of charge. He has set an example for others.
He has retired from Government Girls’ High School run by SC and ST Welfare Department in Patana block March 17, 2017. But
as the school has acute shortage of teachers, he continues to teach the students without taking any remuneration. He pays for bus ticket from his own pockets while daily commuting to the school. “Till the new teacher was appointed, I will teach the students,” he said.
Set up in 1993, the school has 300 students from Class VII to Class X. Hailing from Jagatsinghpur district, he has taught at Jadipada, Naranpur and Chilida schools. Sethi has also taught for over 38 years in different schools in Sundergarh, Dhenakanal, Phulbani, Kalahandi and Keonjhar.
His family comprises his wife, a B Tech studying son and a married daughter. Sethi is receiving provisional pension now and waiting for full pension.
Suave and simple with a lot of helping nature, he has been popular among students, locals and even officials.
