Basudevpur: A pregnant minor rape victim reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after being deceived by her boyfriend. The incident was reported from a village near Basudevpur in Bhadrak district Monday morning.
Neighbours spotted her writhing in pain in a critical condition and rushed her to the Basudevpur community health centre (CHC).
According to reports, the girl stayed alone with her father after the death of her mother. Her father worked as a fisherman and often stayed out of the house.
A local youth-Musha Mallick of Boigaon village under Simulia police limits– befriended her. Later, he lured her into a physical relationship on the pretext of marriage.
Musha then started avoiding her when he learnt that she was pregnant and was insisting on marriage.
Unable to bear the trauma, the girl consumed poison kept at her house when her father had gone for work.
The police have started an investigation after receiving a complaint from her family members.
