post news network, Bhubaneswar, March 18: Around 150 students from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training (KIIT) Wednesday thronged the student activity area on their campus to get a glimpse of a plethora of performances organised by the students of the university. Several budding professionals from diverse disciplines toiled hard to squeeze time out from their academic activities to floor their mates by displaying their creative talents. However, the main attraction of the evening was a mime show, Mime Madhu, organised by Spic Macay.
Abhijeet Pattnaik, Spic Macay KIIT chapter coordinator, said, “Spic Macay often organises cultural programmes across the country. They often choose several colleges in the country to hold these shows, which help in strengthening Indian culture. Today a mime was organised in our campus; many people loved to watch it. A mime is a unique art form which uses expressions rather than words to narrate the story.”
Abhishek Tripathi, a BTech student of the university said, “I and many of my friends often flock to these kinds of cultural programmes. These are now an important part of our lives. These play a vital role in de-stressing our minds. There are many student clubs in our college, which often organises some kind of events or other that we love to take part in. I heard about mimes before. Today I was really mesmerised to see a mime show.”
Sandeep Mishra, another student from the college said, “I love to come to some of the events organised by our college or students. Many of us wait eagerly for these programmes, because they help us forget the tension of studies, albeit for a few moments. Moreover, many students also get a platform here to showcase their talents beyond academics.”
During the eventful evening, mime artist Arusam Madhusudhan, who came from Hyderabad, did a show, which wooed the audience present on the campus. Earlier many students sung with only guitar to accompany them. Several teaching and non-teaching staff of the college were also present during the event.
