Bhubaneswar: A court in Bhubaneswar Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Delhi-based journalist-cum-defence analyst Abhijit Iyer Mitra, who was arrested for his derogatory and objectionable remarks on the art and culture of Odisha.
The camp court at Jharpada jail here reserved verdict on hearing of Mitra’s bail plea and extended his judicial custody by 14 days.
The Commissionerate police had arrested Mitra after hours of interrogation in Bhubaneswar October 23.
Mitra has been booked under IPC Sections 294, 295A, 153A, 500, 506 and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
The Konark Police had taken Abhijit on a four-day remand to interrogate him over his derogatory remarks against the Sun Temple October 25.
Mitra also appeared before a House Committee of Odisha Legislative Assembly Tuesday and tendered an unconditional apology for his objectionable remarks on legislators.
The House panel headed by leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra asked Mitra to reappear November 2 and submit an affidavit.
