Bhubaneswar: With a view to putting pressure on the Modi government for passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha during the winter session beginning Tuesday, the BJD is planning to seek intervention of the President and the Vice President.
In an attempt to give a big push to the proposal of giving 33 per cent quota to women in Parliament and assemblies, a delegation of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is likely to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu very soon and submit a memorandum for passage of the Bill in the Lok Sabha, sources in the BJD said here Monday.
According to the sources, BJD is also likely to support the Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha. The Bill has already got the nod of Lok Sabha and would be tabled in the upper house in this session. This was discussed at the BJD Parliamentary Party meeting held at Naveen Niwas here Sunday.
Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to initiate the move to ensure one-third reservation for women.

The state Assembly November 20 had unanimously adopted a resolution for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative assemblies and Parliament. Besides, the government has written to all the CMs and formed delegations of BJD leaders to meet the leaders of seven national parties and 15 regional parties and discuss the proposal.
