Cuttack, April 18: Authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital here have decided to upgrade the security on the campus for the safety of patients and staff.
Nearly 50 per cent of the campus will be covered by closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. In the first phase, the CCTV cameras will be installed at seven locations at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh. These include the emergency casualty and trauma care, gynaecology, the two entry and exit points, the outpatient department and other strategic areas.
Besides, multiple cameras would be installed at certain places considering the patient turnout, the space of each department and the sensitivity of the location.
Swasthya Bikash Samiti, the monitoring body for SCB, has approved the proposal to install advanced surveillance systems. It has also approved the putting in place of other special measures for streamlining vehicular traffic on the hospital campus.
SCB administrative officer Pratap Mishra said the premier state-run hospital would clamp restrictions on the movement of vehicles by making the stretch from Mangalabag and Ranihat gates no-vehicle zones to provide adequate space for patients, attendants, medical staff and the movement of indoor ambulances.
The hospital has also proposed to create a separate entry from near Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre to put a check on overcrowding at the main entrance on the Mangalabag side, he said.
Other facilities at the hospital are also being bolstered. These include the establishment of a round-the-clock diagnostic centre inside the hospital. A single-window system to facilitate patients to get e-tickets for seeking medical facilities will be also soon available in all departments.
