Lathor: A transformer near Lathor Hatapada Pada School under Khaprakhol block in Bolangir district is posing serious threats to the well-being students. The transformer has been installed barely four feet from the school premises.
Locals have raised questions as to how the management allowed a high voltage transformer to be installed alongside the school building. They feel that it may cause grave danger to the students. Danger is imminent as on most occasions, children are seen playing very close to the transformer without realising the dangers that can emanate from the high voltage wires.
The Government Primary School was set up way back in 1979. It accommodates students from Class I to Class V. “The transformer and the dangling wires around it are a huge threat. All students coming out of the school wait next to it before setting out for home. Most of the times, we warn the children to stay away from the transformer. A wrong step could prove fatal for them who are usually in a playful mood after school ends. They are found either playing or frolicking around the danger zone,” pointed out a guardian.
Keeping in view the present danger, residents have urged the power department to build a fence around the transformer to prevent any untoward mishap.
“It’s an old school and many students study here. We have found students playing next to or in front of the transformer. There is none to create awareness among them about the perils of playing close to high tension wires. I sincerely appeal to the electricity department to either erect a fence around the transformer or shift it from its present location,” said another resident.
Locals lamented that the urgency which the electricity officials show while collecting bills is strangely lacking in solving such a serious problem.
