JKPur, April 20: Hundreds of investors of E-type Colony here in Rayagada district Monday dragged the agents of a chit fund firm, Naliniprava and Senapati Roy, out of their house onto the road demanding refund of their deposits after Naliniprava attacked Padmavati Hial, an investor, with a sharp-edged weapon and injured her when the depositors were demonstrating in front of the house of the couple.
On being alerted about the incident, police personnel arrived at the spot under Chandili police limits and pacified the protestors. They also detained the agents.
The agents lead a luxurious life with misappropriating the hard-earned money of the depositors to the tune of Rs50 lakh, the demonstrators alleged. The two have allegedly bought expensive cars and plots at various places, as well as trucks, using the money of the depositors.
The couple had been running the chit fund business for the past four to five years. About 140 persons had invested sums ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh each with the firm in the hope of getting the promised lucrative returns. However, when they asked for their money to be refunded without interest, the two were dillydallying.
The residents apprised the collector of their grievances a fortnight ago but to no avail. They also lodged a complaint with Chandili police against the couple but this also failed to yield results.
On being tipped off that the couple might flee Sunday midnight, the investors rushed to the place and gheraoed the house. The couple bolted the door from inside and did not come out as hundreds of deposits had encircled the house. Finally, they dragged the accused on to road when Naliniprava attacked a woman investor who had invested Rs 2.10 lakh with the firm.
