Barmer (Rajasthan): Rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack which claimed lives of more than 40 CRPF personnel has resulted in the postponement of a marriage between an Indian groom and a Pakistani bride. The wedding was to take place March 8, but now it has been deferred.
Mahendra Singh, a resident of Khejad Ka Paar village, in the border district of Barmer in Rajasthan, had booked tickets on ‘Thar Express’ to travel to Pakistan and tie the knot with his fiance Chagan Kanwar of Sinoi village in the Amarkot district of Sindh province. The train leaves for Lahore every Monday and Thursday from Attari. However, now the services remain suspended.
Getting Pakistani visas for the bridegroom and his family was also a problem. Singh stated that only because of the intervention of Rajasthan minister Gajendra Singh, five visas were issued for his family. Now however, it looks like that the effort has gone to waste. “We had made all preparations and even distributed invitation cards to the relatives,” Singh said.
Now, however, as things stand, it looks like the marriage will take place at a later date.
