Man kills mother, clandestinely buries corpse; arrested

Koksara (Kalahandi): Koksara police Sunday arrested a man on charges of killing his elderly mother and subsequently burying her body in the village graveyard.

Police Saturday exhumed the body from the graveyard and sent it for autopsy. A case of murder was registered and the accused was taken for interrogation. The victim has been identified as Lanka Bemal, mother of accused Ramesh Bemal of Tunagaon village under the police limits in the district.

According to sources Ramesh had a serious argument with his mother over some issue February 25. In a fit of rage, Ramesh attacked his mother with a sharp edged weapon and stabbed her, leaving her seriously injured.

He then rushed her to Koksara sub-divisional hospital. After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital (DHH) for further treatment as her condition worsened.

However, after undergoing treatment for more than a week, the woman succumbed to her injuries March 7. Following this, Ramesh without informing anyone, brought her body to the village with the help of his friends and buried it in the village graveyard.

On receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the village and exhumed the body of the woman from the graveyard.

“On receiving reports, our team rushed to the spot and exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem. A complaint has been registered at Koksara police station and accused Ramesh has been detained,” said Laxminarayan Panda, Dharmagarh DSP.

Interrogation is underway, Panda added.

Similarly, a youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Badaliguda village under Padua police limits in Koraput district. The deceased has been identified as Laba Tangul (27) of the village.

According to sources Laba who worked as a labourer in Andhra Pradesh had returned home a few days ago. Saturday night, two persons called Laba outside the house and took him with them.

But when Laba did not return home Sunday morning, his relatives and locals launched a frantic search in the nearby areas of the village.

During the search, Laba’s body was found lying under a tree in the village. On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem. Later, the relatives lodged a complaint with the police alleging murder. Based on the complaint, police have launched a probe into the matter.
