Bhubaneswar: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and registered their complaints about the violence unleashed Thursday during voting in some parts of the state during the first phase of elections.
The delegation, comprising party leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar, said that cases of violence and irregularities from different parts of the state exposed BJD’s desperation. Speaking to the media after meeting the CEO, the leader said that such violence during elections should not be accepted.
She said, “The voting in the first phase of elections revealed that BJD is concerned about its likely defeat and is resorting to desperate measures. Incidents such as booth capturing, rigging, threatening of BJP workers in polling booths, reveal the true face of the party.”
She also said, “Today we visited the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to register our concern about such reported issues coming from 107 polling booths from different parts of the state. We apprised the CEO about such issues and sought his intervention,”
The BJP leader also added that the BJD workers worked against the spirit of democracy, threatening polling workers and also, in some cases, the voters.
Lekhasri also said that Odisha is a peace-loving state and it would not accept violence.
